PRESENTATION
Visions Underground is a daring presentation of experimental
videos which will take place September 24, 25 & 26, 1998
at the Berri-UQAM subway station's Angrignon-bound platform
which is frequented daily by more than 10,000 users. The event
will take place in the context of the Journées de la
Culture.
For most Montrealers, more than 30% of their daily experiences
happen within transitory and impersonal spaces like the subway.
Consistent with its nomadic philosophy, Champ Libre once agan
inhabits another public space. A scenographic design will
be specially conceived by the architect Stéphane Pratte,
from the ATELIER IN SITU. Everyday the videos will be shown
continuously between 11:20AM and 11:00PM.
VIDEO PROGRAMMING
Programming consists of more than forty national and international
videographic works, each original in its content, with a maximum
length of four minutes: the waiting period between two trains,
time enough for a furtive glimpse and another look. The event
will surprise the visual habits of the urban dweller.
PUBLICATION
Champ Libre will produce a free publication, available on
site, which will bring together the video programming in its
entirety, as well as original contributions from artists and
intellectuals on the problematic of public art.
