ABOUT THE ARTIST
Brigitte Henry lives and works in Montreal. After studies in photography
at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, she begins her Waterproof,
portrait sous l’eau project that earned her numerous prestigious
prizes and the publication of this project at L’effet pourpre.
This underwater photographic study was for her, a first step towards
the materialization of her fascination for the human body in a state
of weightlessness. She fiddles with spaces to transform their sense,
to suggest another dimension to it or to propose another reality.
She creates doubt and ambiguity between reality and fiction. Her
pictures suggest a world situated at the frontier of dreaming. The
strange and the unusual live in these images that become an intrigue
for the ones looking at them. She has recently presented her photographs
form Waterproof series in the French Institute of Prague.
PRESENTED WORK
MÉMOIRE-TRANSPARENCE, SLIDESHOW, QUEBEC, 2004
With archive images and recent photographies
of the Craig pumping station, i’m trying to recreate the atmosphere,
somewhere between dream and reality, of wath could of been the station
in another space in time. With the help of the slideshow, I will
animate a tale illustrating the encounter between water and it’s
space.
